Readoptionstiltskin

Well, shit.

This was supposed to just be another one of “Mik’s random ideas” that was fashioned when I accidentally drank a bottle of wine to myself while watching the season opener of Broncos vs Ravens (Thank you Julius Thomas for killing it for me in fantasy!). Mr. Total Packers himself sends me an email that I should write some random football bullshit for them and here we are.

There’s a sensation I can’t quite explain as the days start to cool ever so slightly, and the long days of summer start to condense, there’s a feeling…. There’s a smell (is that the wiff of a sweaty jock strap? A slight hint of head and shoulders? Or maybe even Adrian Peterson’s orange peanut!?) of something indescribable in the air… Football? Is that you? My long lost love!

I’m not a romantic but the anticipation of camp, the first preseason game or my first fantasy football draft makes me happier than a sparkling vampire near some pouty monotonous actress.

For those of you who have no idea what I’m talking about, it’s a sickness (and the only cure is more cowbell. Wha?). The love of my life known as the Green Bay Packers has probably taken years off my life in stress but would I trade it for the world? Rhetorical question.

Honestly, even though we lost to the Niners and Keaperprick I was actually happy with how we played for the most part – much better than last year’s week one. We stopped their running game better than I expected and as much as I wanted to sulk in a corner I couldn’t help but be anything but excited for the rest of the season. Yes, the officials (screwed us again!) incorrectly gave the Niners another attempt at the third down after the scuffle when the penalties offset. We can argue that it would have changed the game but honestly, we can’t blame the read option anymore after 8 months of preparation. Boldin played better than I think even the Niners expected (Dear Anquan, we’re sorry. Love, Baltimore) and Lacy didn’t meet my maybe higher-than-should-have-been expectations. This talk about Keap being better than Rodgers? REALLY?! If Rodgers, or I’ll even be as bold to say that a fair majority of the other QBs had as much time as Keap did then they wouldn’t even be over glorifying their little golden child. I try to be a respectable sports fan but I really hope someone brings Colin down a few notches on his arrogance scale to put it as lightly as possible.

This was the game I was most worried about – to the point I was a sweaty mess at the bar and now it’s over and honestly what could have been a better game to learn and review from? I hate having an early bye but let’s get healthy (our dreadful secondary needs Burnett & Heyward back like STAT) and kick some ass the next 15 weeks.

My fellow Packers fans, we got this. Hold tight and GO PACK GO.

Well this was overdue...

I'm supposed to be getting work done but we have a 110" HD projection screen with the game on.. and I was feeling homesick so I may have purchased a bottle of wine from Healdsburg and had a fair amount of it.. to myself. (Also please excuse any typos, spelling and grammar errors please)

"Mik you talk too much about football". Well FINE then I'll start a separate blog. Most people know me as "fitmik" on instagram and twitter as the girl really really into health & fitness but in all honesty my number one love is football.

Why? I honestly don't know. I love my dad with all my heart but even he'll admit he's kind of a fair-weathered fan (like most bandwagon Niner fans - sorry guys it's true for the most part. Even though I have nothing but respect for true fans of any team... Sorta). There is just something in my soul that feels lost without the days slowly getting shorter and knowing soon I will be tracking my fantasy players, the anticipation of a full day of Sunday football, and living for good rivalry games. If you ask me what my favorite holiday is? Super Bowl Sunday.

I don't know everything, I can't quote you every stat known to man (even thought I wish I could), but this is something I am completely passionate about and love learning more about the sport every day. I am primarily self-taught as once again I am not from a football family, now in my 20's I have friends into football but for me I think God just put some kind of funky DNA that just craves good ol' 'merican Football.

It's 1:00am here in Atlanta.. I should be asleep but my fantasy football addiction has kept me awake. You say obsessed? I say, dedicated.

So many good games this Sunday I don't even know where to start! I want to start.... But I do have my big girl job now that I have tomorrow so alas, I will have to make a new post tomorrow.
